Job Overview
Join one of South Africa’s most important logistics hubs as a Port Worker at TPT Richards Bay MPT. This opportunity offers hands-on experience in port operations and cargo handling.
If you are physically fit, and looking to grow in the logistics and maritime industry, this is a great Opportunity. Preference will be given to applicants based in the King Cetshwayo District.
Position Purpose
To provide general labour and operational support to ensure a clean, safe, and productive terminal environment. You will assist with the handling, loading, and monitoring of cargo, following all health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Port Worker, your duties will include:
- Cleaning operational equipment (e.g. crane cabins, ship-to-shore crane windows)
- Inspecting the condition of containers
- Monitoring reefer units (refrigerated containers)
- Opening and closing twist-locks on rail wagons
- Assisting with cargo loading, off-loading, and slacking according to SOPs
- Hooking and unhooking cargo
- Tarping and untarping (when required)
- Placing and removing dunnage
- Cleaning work areas such as rail trucks, workshops, sheds, plant areas, and ablution facilities
- Completing basic documentation (e.g. accident reports)
- Identifying and using the correct cargo handling gear
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year terminal or port operations experience
Competencies and Skills
Knowledge of:
- Terminal layout and cargo flow
- Safety regulations and operational protocols
- Stack positioning and cargo organization
Skills required:
- Attention to detail
- Commitment to safety and cleanliness
- Ability to work in a physically demanding, team-based environment
Preference will be given to candidates who live within the King Cetshwayo District.
