About the Internship Programme
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) invites applications from qualifying students in the Johannesburg community for the Social Development Internship Programme. This internship is part of the City’s youth development initiatives aimed at offering work-based experience to graduates who require practical training to complete their qualifications.
This opportunity is available for unemployed youth who have not previously participated in an internship related to their field of study.

Minimum Requirements
- South African citizen and resident of Johannesburg
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Completed Diploma (NQF Level 6) in one of the following:
- Quantity Surveying
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Building
- OR a Degree in Project Management / Administration / Management
- Understanding of local government policies and municipal procedures is an added advantage
Primary Function
To support the implementation of capital projects in line with approved business cases and within specified timelines and budgets. Interns will assist in managing municipal infrastructure projects using available resources to meet performance goals.
Key Performance Areas
- Assist in developing and implementing project plans
- Communicate project requirements to relevant stakeholders
- Ensure proper execution of facility management operations
- Maintain professional conduct in all duties
Required Competencies
Technical Skills:
- Computer literacy (MS Office, Outlook, Internet)
- Fluent in English
- Analytical thinking and attention to detail
- Ability to identify and solve problems
Behavioural Competencies:
- Strong teamwork and collaboration
- Professionalism and integrity
- Understanding of CoJ policies and municipal legislation
- Knowledge of Batho Pele principles
